calibrated preemptive response my ass
last time i checked, it wasnt 1972 and marcos is long dead. and yet Executive Secretary announced last Sept. 21, 2005 that "The rule of calibrated preemptive response is now in force, in lieu of maximum tolerance. The authorities will not stand aside while those with ill intent are herding a witting or unwitting mass of people and inciting them into actions that are inimical to public order and the peace of mind of the national community."
points to consider:
1. maximum tolerance- our penal code gives the people the right to mobilize, assemble, demonstrate grievances. and the government's role is to uphold that right, to make sure that the people can assert their right, and not to tolerate it. the people's right to assemble is a right, and not a privilege given by the government.
2. marcosm- are we under martial law??? is there even any acceptable precedent for such rule?
3. the people are underestimated- dont you think we people should be given more credit? i mean, a lot of people choose not to rally because they believe otherwise. a lot of people too, choose to rally because they believe it is the avenue for their grievances. doesnt the division show how WISER people are? i mean, it just shows how much people have grown, no longer playing pawns to the opposition nor to the administration. and still they think we people are that gullible.
4. so edsa 1 is useless?- edsa 1 overthrew an abusive regime. so why are we still living in the shadows of martial law?
5. why should the rallies against the present admin be any different from the rallies against the former admins?- maybe the admin has forgotten that gma wouldnt be where she is now if not for edsa 2. what difference is there? rallies both against present and former admins are results of the people's hunger for change. so why should the rallies agaisnt her predecessor be any different from the rallies against her? why should the people be denied of the right to change?
ugh. calibrated preemptive response MY ASS.
