sendai wa utsukushii machi desu..
and the people are, too.

I, along with 10 other kidd0s and 8 titos just arrived from Sendai sunday night. a part of me wanted to stay in Sendai, but a part also wanted to hug and kiss my family again. it was like after i get to kiss my parents, id get on a plane (definitely not cathay) to narita and a bus to sendai. i just love the place and everything and everyone in it. well, the public baths and the food are quite questionable, but still tolerable. the weather is fine, the secrurity is great, the lodging is perfect (commendations to Matsubaraso Inn!=D), and the people are simply the best. imagine waking up to smiles and greetings, even from those you dont know.=)

it took 23 effing hours to get to sendai from manila. we left manila a little past 7 and got to hongkong a little before 9. our flight to Japan was delayed for 2 or 3 hours and we spent that time getting starbucks (yey!:D) and playing cards. on the way to Japan, just a little past Taiwan, we noticed the plane turning around. I was seated next to Martha and she asked me why it was turning. i figured maybe there was a storm or something of that sort that the plane had to avoid so it was changing its course or something. and then the effing pilot made the effing announcement, "this is the captain speaking, one of our engines broke down. we need to make an emergency landing in Taiwan. dont panic." *@!^%((&*^$#@^% anong dont panic??!!? at first i was okay, i was even thinking of f4. (okay, okay, im a fan, kill me now..) but when the plane was wobbling because of the turbulence (im hoping it was because of the turbulence) it hit me, "o my God, i might die without my parents with me." and unfortunately, thats one of my fears. and btw, flying and heights are my fears too. and the captain's next announcement wasnt really comforting either, "cabin crew members, go back to your seat now, go back to your seats now!". i froze. my chest started to tighten and i was panicking inside. when i get nervous, i couldnt breathe and that made the whole situation harder for me. i had to take 2 of my medicines. i didnt want to panic so as not to create a scene and make the titos worry so i just slumped down in my seat and let God (the real one, not junot.:D) take over. my life was flashing in front of me and i was saying goodbyes and apologies to the ones i could be leaving behind. but you know what, God really is good. when we landed in Taiwan, tito Rommel just hugged me and i cried it all out. i was still shaken, but damn, all i could think of was thanking God for giving me another life. its my 2nd time to "almost die". but the 1st time is another story. we got to land in Chiang Kai Shek airport in Taipei and after a few minutes of resting, we transferred planes. i was thinking that it couldnt get any worse when just a little before landing in Narita, tito Nesty had a seizure. of course, we kidd0s got scared and God (junot) suggested that we pray. i led the prayer and all i could think of was asking God (the real one) to help us get through this and to strengthen us. and guess what, just after the prayer, tito Nesty was okay and we all felt braver than we were a few minutes ago. IBA TALAGA SI GOD..=)

the bus ride to Sendai was a 6 hour trip and although i cant sleep sitting up, i slept all the way to sendai.:D we were given an hour to prepare and clean up before our host families would arrive. carine (my buddy!:D) and i were like kids at christmas when we saw the room.=) we took a bath then had a very hurried breakfast and off to the conference room. finally, i can now say what ive been practicing for days..

"ohayo gozaimasu. watashi no namae wa David Mariel desu. watashi wa junana desu. watashiwa wa Firippine Daigaku no ninensei desu. Domo arigato gozaimasu."

after that, all i could think of was, wtf was i freaking about? it wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. and then i found out that Miharu (my sister) wasnt really fluent in english and our conversations would be based on how wide the vocabulary of her translator is. when we got home, i was introduced to my chichi and then i gave my omiyagi to them so as to lighten my baggage. :D we played monopoly afterwards and i had my first japanese meal. :) we didnt finish the game though, because we had to go to the festival and see shun and go shopping. we had soba for lunch and we went to the disney store and hakyen!:D the bad thing was, we were walking and walking and walking and walking. good thing i changed from my boots to my sneakers. shun, miharu, and i took the subway to izumi-chou station where my otosan met us. we dropped shun home. we got home around 4pm. i changed clothes because i really wanted to sleep for a while, and then shun came and we had barbeque for dinner. i know what youre thinking, and yes, it was quite early. i thought it would be over but it turns out, i still had to play sof tennis with shun's students (shun was a coach). good thing Michelle was there, at least i had someone to talk to. we played a bit and i bonded with them. it was really fun. my okasan picked us up then we went home. i took a nice,hot bath alone and drifted off to sleep. the next day, i went with Miharu to her school where i was an instant celebrity and also where i slept during their lessons. i know their math lesson though, they were taking up algebraic progression. i was asked to speak to the class during their english writing class and during their other english class, i taught them how to play "patintero" and they taught me "hanaichimomnen" which i really liked. :D after the class, the english club had a party for me and we played something. they had an american teacher, "Maggie" and i talked to her a lot. :D we went to the mall and we bought kokeshi, and a kimono, and some pasalubong for people at home. i was exhausted that night, and as i was going to sleep, Miharu asked me if we can talk, which was really okay with me. we made kokeshi for each other and we talked just about everything her translator can well, translate. :D i slept really late that night but woke up really excited to see my co-delegates again. :D

before going to Sendai station, okasan and i passed by the ginko (bank) to change my dollar to yen. i was really glad to see my co-delegates again and i guess thats when we started bonding, during the trip to Seiwa Gakuen High School part 1. :D as per usual, we introduced ourselves, had another weird meal, and bonded with the students. we joined a nursing class where we raced in wheelchairs and also a music class where we played the Koto. we played Sakura. *btw, i know Sakura from my music class in St. Paul way way back* we even joked about it. "may koto sa olo. we have lisa in the philippines, only smaller than the koto.".
from Seiwa part 1, we took a bus to Seiwa part 2 where we would stay for the next two nights. the gagos really bonded during the stay in Seiwa. from ice cream to AQUARIUS!!! to flash lighting the boys' dorm to practically breaking all the rules. :D it was that blessed night that Jamie taught us "Good morning queen". the next day, we woke up to the recorded-like sound of someone knocking on our door, "good morning, wake up.". we girls laughed before even opening our eyes!:D we had breakfast and went to the school for the welcome ceremony where we *again* introduced ourselves and were given gifts. we were given a few minutes to play good morning queen and tong-its with Sato (the boys' guy). after a while, the boys played baseball while we wore a kimono and went around the school. there was a tea ceremony where only I drank the effin green tea which stained my teeth for a bit. when we got back to the dorm, our titos were there and we had our pictures taken. we went to Sato's class where they taught us japanese games and where Picoy suddenly had a crazy girlfriend. :D we went shopping for 45 minutes after in "The Mall" and bonded again when we got back to the dorms. i forgot whether Ms. "Good morning wake up" woke us up. we had breakfast and said our goodbyes and thank yous to the people there and set off to Matsushima.

the bus ride was both fun and tiring. we went to this museum where the place was really Japanese. there were japanese gardens, and we drank "golden water", which would supposedly make you rich. they even had this big creepy space under the mountain which they used as a refrigerator. the good thing though, was that we ate in a restaurant where they actually have food! *mean,i know.:D* we ate our hearts out and my buddy and i were even amazed at their hand dryer. nyahaha. we went to the nuclear plant museum which i actually thought was the hotel. we stayed there for 30 mins or so then we went to Matsubaraso Inn. the day was heaven for us girls. not only was the food at the resto great, but our rooms were perfect!:D we had beds, and private toilets and baths. we had a really fun dinner and an even funner bonding session in "the boys' living room". we played good morning queen, tumpok tae, names, and told ghost stories. thats where we started saying that a small fart would sound like "pink" while a big fart would be "BLACK". oh, and we also started saying "a-huh" to two people in the group. *ehem, and who could they be?:D* we only quit when the titos forced us to sleep. we woke up late, had eggs with the expiry date stamped on it for breakfast, then left the inn for the aquarium. oh the aquarium was sooooo fun.:D there was a seal/sea lion show. :D after the aquarium, we went to a wax museum of Matsu-something Date. after that, we rode a boat for a trip around the bay where we fed seagulls(?) from our hands!!!:D it was so cool, they chased the boat then ate the cracker from our hands!!!:D after that, we road a coaster for a surprisingly short ride back to Sendai.

we had the bbq-slash-farewell party that night. i met Luigi's foster sister, Aya who was very kawaii. :D i love her so much. :) we sang "Sana" and "Sayonarano Mukogawa" (or something like that) and Panda Pig (Picoy) played with his mouth again while God (Junot) danced to it. Elmo (Arvin) sang "sesame street" in his elmo voice. the night was both hellish and fun. i was able to call home, just like the others. Miguel slept in the girls room and occupied two tatami mats, mine and martha's. we had to evacuate to the boys' room. the titos werent there and so we slept in the boys room until the titos could come and wake Miguel up. we slept at around 4 and woke up 6 or 8? i forgot. so anyway, Saturday I, carine, jamie, michelle, martha, jc, luigi, and the titos went to Bennyland. some of our family members were there, too. Bennyland is this bigger version of E.K. which they thought would compensate our not going to Disneyland. we rode coasters, and went go karting, and even rode this thing that brings you up then turns you backward and forward!:D it was so cool. we had purikuras and then hell broke lose. the japanese began to hurry us up as we were going shopping. the aggreement was 3:30 but it was only a little past 2:00 when they started to hurry us up. it irritated us a bit. they brought us to "The Mall" and "The Mall part 2" where everything was expensive when we really wanted to go to a hakyen. and so, we walked going to a hakyen nearby and finished up all our money. that night, we went around the city to see the lights and take pictures. Sunday was Kanako's birthday and monday was Michelle's so we had a mini party for them. when the japanese went home, we delegates bonded again for the last time. :( picoy and miguel were like in an aquarium. nyahaha. the japanese were there to wake us up and we left Sendai at around 8 or 9. it was just so sad.

when we got to the airport, we did our last-minute shopping and i almost lost my passport. the trip home was better but sadder. :(

the trip was a success. the delegates were exemplary and the JCs were commendable. we all worked hard for this trip to be a success, and it was. everyone was left with wonderful memories and an extreme desire to go back. :)

naalala ko nung retreat nmin, ayaw na ayaw ko na ako na ung magsha2re kasi nakakahiya, na nakakalungkot na ewan. pero nung turn ko na, eto lang ung nasabi ko..

yuck, drama noh? pero totoo un. ngayon, mas grabe pa. kasi 2 na ung company ni dad, at si mom naman, MP na. ang kaibahan lang, mas naiintindihan ko na ngayon.

sometimes, the way we see things arent always what they really are. we see things the way we want to see them. its just a matter of seeing things in a different light, perhaps adding a cup of understanding too.

ive always wanted to be more than what i am, to do better, to be great. not for me, but for my parents. not so they would be pleased with me, but so i could show them how grateful i am for them. and although my parents arent always supportive of my endeavors (eg running for cas-sc), and although they werent always there to see my triumphs and witness my hardwork paying off, its okay. because i know, even without those triumphs, they love me. they might not show it the way i want them to, but again, its okay because i know they do love me. it did take me years to realize that, but the juice was definitely worth the squeeze.. :)

i dont really have much to blog about, i just feel like blogging. i soooooooo wanna change my layout. its too dark. but ive been really busy doing chores. *yes,chores.* cos our maids left already. sucks.

i finished another book, memoirs of a geisha.. *thanks bes* :).. its soooooo nice. ima look for a copy of that book in sendai. i hope there's one there. god, i feel like i might max out my cards and empty my wallet when i get there. i wanna get around 3 kokeshi to add to my doll collection, and plates with a geisha design for my mom, and a very very very nice 50th bday gift for my dad. :) too bad i wont be here when he celebrates it. :( im planning to make a scrapbook with his grade school report cards, certificates, pictures, and everything else that mom can give to him on his bday since id be away.

what else to say.. oh, i have a dvd of RAIN MAN!!!:).. its a movie we watched in senior yr for our psych spec class and ive looked for a copy of it EVERYWHERE since then. and when kuya mark and matthew picked me up from practice-slash-mtg, we went to ruins and ta-daaaa, there it is..:) i owe kuya mark 80 bucks for that though. hehe. i left my bag in the car. so anyway..

its halfway through summer and i havent gone swimming yet. not even a pool. bummer. i have to go to the beach before classes start or ill go bonkers.

crap, thats what my blog is full of. nyahahah. whatever. oh btw, ive got something to say to everywun..

before you become inspired, it only means you scream, i scream, we all scream for ice cream. nyahaha. i love ice cream. and i love HIM. know who? nyahaha. sucker. :)
